BrahMos to be launched from underwater platform : Defence Minister A K Antony



DRDO is all set to test Indo-Russian joint venture BrahMos cruise missile from a underwater platform ,which will enable it to be used in submarine later . Defence Minister A K Antony today informed in parliament that Missile which has a range of 290km will be soon tested and soon will be commissioned in naval submarine .

DRDO few years ago had approached Indian Navy to loan them a Diesel Submarine which the Indian Naval fleet operates ,but the request was turned down by Navy due to shortage of submarine in the force , while DRDO still has not clarified on which submarine it will be first tested after initial test are done from underwater platform .

sources close to IDRW ,have said that Ins Arihant India’s first nuclear submarine which has been doing sea trials may become the first Submarine which will be used for integrating BrahMos cruise missile .

Kilo Russian made Diesel submarine is the other Submarine which DRDO had initially planned to use for integrating BrahMos cruise missile, but due to some submarine already in Dry docks for up-gradation and others need for Naval operations , plans where put on hold .

Air Force version of BrahMos cruise missile is progressing well and airframes of two Sukhoi Su 30 MKI has been strengthen to carry Two BrahMos cruise missile under it wings .

NOT All MKI Will Carry BrahMos

unconfirmed Sources have said that not all Sukhoi Su 30 MKI in the Indian Air force will be configured to carry BrahMos cruise missile , and each Sukhoi Squadrons will have dedicated numbers of airframes which will be able to carry them , Experts point out that the sheer weight of the missiles can reduce life of the airframe considerably . to enhance the life of airframes this approach might have been taken .
